The Mask slips on Radical Environmentalism

People who are not governed by God will be ruled by tyrants. William Penn

In the shadow of the Climate Change conference in Kadowice last month, it appears the Progressive world has decided that ‘subtlety’ in advancing their cause is no longer working for them.

This is 2019, after all! And given that decades of Green propaganda have yet to fully convince the entire global population that God’s creation is failing and that it’s their fault, the time has now come for the Progressive Left to double down with even greater apocalyptic doom-mongering in order to achieve their Malthusian goal of reducing the ‘surplus’ population.

Which is what they’ve been doing lately and in many ways.

Such as the threats by billionaire Democratic funder and 2020 presidential hopeful Tom Steyer who told an Ivy League audience at the new U.S. Climate Action Centre in Poland last month that when it comes to fighting climate change, “the time for politeness is over,” and that winning the climate change debate (as cover for their social engineering) will now require a merciless sea change in rules and tactics, requiring deniers to be crushed.

Never mind that one after another of their ‘doctrines’ have been found wrong, such as the study claiming that global warming has been heating up the oceans. Turns out that claim was based on a miscalculation, forcing researchers at Princeton University and San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceangraphy to retract their key findings. And the journal Nature — which published the report claiming oceans were warming at a rate 60 percent higher than previously thought —to concede the article’s findings were totally meaningless.

But this is minor stuff when compared to reports that scientists are now at war with two out of the three primary inputs required to sustain photosynthesis, the process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy into the chemical energy needed to fuel the organisms’ activities. In a jaw-dropping report that appeared on NaturalNews.com in early December, science writer Mike Adams itemized the latest lunatic attempts by environmentalists to discredit even the most basic tenets of science: “First, they’re at war with carbon, and you often hear them talk about the ‘war on carbon’ or ‘carbon sequestration’ as a way to bury carbon in the ground so that it’s removed from atmospheric air.”

Environmentalists have even declared carbon dioxide to be a ‘pollutant’ when it is the single most important molecule for supporting photosynthesis and nearly all plant life across the planet,” he continued. “Only a complete moron would declare war on the molecule of life that sustains trees, forests, plants, food crops, grasses, algae and seaweed, yet that’s exactly what environmentalists have done. Yet their goal is the complete elimination of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere — an outcome that would exterminate all recognizable life on Earth. All in the name of being ‘green’, which is now more important than actually supporting living organisms.

And secondly, environmentalists also think there’s something wrong with sunlight, another key to photosynthesis. Which, according to Adams, is why they’ve recently launched a program of “global dimming” that seeks to literally pollute the atmosphere by dispersing millions of tons of smog (sulfur dioxide) into the atmosphere, all in the name of “geoengineering” the atmosphere and, ultimately, making it uninhabitable for humans.

But surely these environmentalists realize that to reduce CO2 to ‘pre-industrial’ levels would drastically reduce the standard of living? And that to eliminate CO2 entirely — if that’s even possible — would result in the elimination of all life on Earth, including themselves?

Do they realize this? Or do they imagine that they themselves would somehow be magically exempt?

I’ll leave you, dear reader, to decide. Particularly in light of a startling piece in the New York Times which hints at what may be the real goal of the radical environmentalists: WOULD HUMAN EXTINCTION BE SUCH A TRAGEDY?

Yes, you read that right. This was indeed the sound of the penny of truth dropping and the mask slipping, exposing what may be the real motives behind so much of Progressive ideology and its social engineering schemes, including Climate Change.

“There are stirrings of discussion these days in philosophical circles about the prospect of human extinction,” writes Todd May in the Times. “This should not be surprising, given the increasingly threatening predations of climate change. In reflecting on this question, I want to suggest an answer to a single question, one that hardly covers the whole philosophical territory but is an important aspect of it. Would human extinction be a tragedy?”

Like Paul Ehrlich (The Population Bomb) before him, Todd May is just the latest in a long line of gurus attempting to make the case that it is Man – made in the Likeness and Image of God – who is the major pestilence on Planet Earth and therefore may have earned his extermination and extinction from the scene.

May, an American professor of philosophy, contends that “human beings are destroying large parts of the inhabitable earth and causing unimaginable suffering to many of the animals that inhabit it.” Therefore obliterating Mankind, he suggests, might “at least tentatively” be both a tragedy and a good thing.

According to May, human extinction would end the devastation, but the only thing keeping that outcome an unqualified good is humanity’s “advanced level of reason,” capacity for art and science, and ability to “experience wonder at the world in a way that is foreign to most if not all other animals.”

So far, so relativistic. Particularly when one considers how superficial a level May’s notions operate on. To him, human extinction would represent a loss of thought and culture rising to the level of tragedy, but one that would be outweighed by the benefits to animals and nature.

And while he admits he doesn’t know whether the current generation should kill itself to prevent future animal suffering, he does suggest that preventing future generations from being born presumably via widespread sterilization, contraception, and/or abortion might make the world better off: “Preventing future humans from existing does not introduce such suffering, since those human beings will not exist and therefore not have lives to sacrifice.”

This places May in line with radical environmentalists and population control activists, virtually all of whom call for limiting future births rather than extinguishing the human race entirely, while at the same time shutting off any further debate (as in: the science is settled) as to whether climate change is actually occurring beyond the natural parameters, and whether human activity contributes to it and whether its effects are truly dangerous.

Code for ‘Genocide’

This is all frightfully civilized talk about what amounts to genocide. A genocidal impulse once indulged by Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot, and one which has been having its way with the intellectual world for decades — thanks to the Progressive Project. And as evidenced most lately by the stunning report released on New Year’s Eve that in 2018, abortion was the leading cause of human death worldwide. While international statisticians estimated 59 million deaths world-wide from myriad causes, a number which does not include abortion deaths, the 42 million abortions indicates, like nothing else could, how murderous our godless culture have become.

This may also account for why the number of euthanasia deaths is rocketing around the world, exemplifying our multi-faceted, multi-victimed Culture of Death which depends on the widespread and publicly approved rejection of God as the Father Creator of all humanity and the Father Creator of this exquisite Earth which He has provided for us to go forth and multiply, filling the Earth as stars fill the heavens and with all the heat, food, shelter and clothing needed along the way until death returns us to Him.

Yet tragically, today’s radical and pantheistic environmentalism — that totalitarian scam whose promoters make billions promoting dysfunctional, and often bankrupting, energy schemes — is just one of the lethal weapons in the death-dealing arsenal of the Progressive Left. Which, in turn, exploits the voting public and co-opts scientists while persecuting dissenters, including the many honest scientist-skepticsm, as ‘deniers’. This while government agencies, NGOs, crony corporations and politicians provide justification and funding to carry the Climate Change game forward, all the while terrifying its ‘true believers’ into joining its army of activists. And this while anyone who criticizes the green energy movement as a scam is ruthlessly attacked, including executives of fossil fuel companies who global warming promoter James Hansen has decreed should be sent to jail for crimes against humanity!

Dissenting Progressivism

The good news is that despite the minions populating the Climate Change conferences ever in search of more money to fund their elitist fantasies, a growing number of citizens around the world are vocalizing their scepticism of this movement as being nothing more or less than a grand hoax wherein governments impose extortionary taxes with the excuse of offsetting the ephemeral effects of so-called Climate Change.

It appears too that a rising numbers of voters are not buying the propaganda. Not any of it, as they watch the sun and moon rise daily, and the seasons continue to change along with the rain and sunlight essential to the growing of crops for food from seeds not a single human being could create himself, nor the soil in which the seed is planted. Nor could they rotate the planet a single inch as all this — ALL this — has been created by God Whose Earth and its perfectly ordered systems welcome humankind to discover, investigate and harness the powers of His creation while at the same time appointing Man to take dominion, just as the Lord God instructed in the Book of Genesis.

It is this fundamental Truth of Life that has been — and is still being — challenged by godless, arrogant and manipulative men since fleeing Eden and Lucifer falling into Hell.

So no surprise that the scales have been falling off the eyes of so many, particularly over the past year as these huckster claims veer into the absurd and the real consequences are beginning to be felt.

This is also why the Yellow Vests in France are seriously challenging their elitist President Emmanual Macron and his Climate Change ideology with demonstrations beginning in Paris and radiating around the country. And prompting one colourful reporter to describe the violent panorama as something out of a Victor Hugo novel, updated to the 21st century, as vandals wrote graffiti on convenience stores and iconic national monuments throughout December. And as police shot tear gas and water cannons into crowds of angry rioters, leaving hundreds injured as France’s most iconic boulevard, the Champs-Elysees, was transformed into a haze of smoke and gas and screams while demonstrators chanted, “It’s the hour of revolt.”

Revolutionary déjà vu?

Some saw this as a spontaneous uprising against the policies and personality of the French president, sparked by his deeply unpopular hike in the “gas tax” which only a few reporters were honest enough to report correctly as the despised carbon tax.

And this same politically correct misidentification appears to have occurred here in Canada as well, suggesting various news outlets are nervous about the potential for triggering a revolt in Canada as Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government rolls out his carbon tax which has also been greeted recently by significant political headwinds and questions about whether Ottawa has the authority to levy such a tax in the first place.

“Governments around the world, including Canada’s, sold us on the idea the magic beans of carbon taxes would save our planet from climate change, while we made trillions of dollars doing it,” wrote Toronto Sun columnist Lorrie Goldstein. “Except it hasn’t worked out that way.”

Nor has it worked out in Australia where the Labour government’s introduction to a carbon pricing scheme in 2012 was met with resistance so strong it was repealed.

A French volcano

Regardless, according to political commentator Nicolas Beytout in L’Opinion, “France is dancing like a volcano ” as tens of thousands of protesters called “gilets jaunes” — because of the reflective safety coats French drivers are required by law to keep in their cars — are still hitting the streets of Paris and other cities across France, and now Belgium, to protest the carbon tax as the alleged benefits of lower carbon emissions are now being swamped in the polls and elsewhere by the higher costs at the gas station and on home heating bills.

Will the climb down by the Macron government — delaying for at least six months planned hikes in the face of the worst Paris street riots in 50 years — provoke a retreat for green-oriented governments in North America, Asia and Europe?

Here’s my question: Given that critics say that popular skepticism is amply justified, and given that the Left promises everything and delivers nothing except pseudo-scientific fright and higher taxes, why is anyone still listening?

The fact is that increasing numbers are not listening anymore, as evidenced by the rise of so-called “populism” across Europe and North America and by the rise of the Yellow Vests in France who understand the climate change con and are prepared to resist it, beginning with their attacks on one of the ideology’s most elitist promoters, Macron.

The world has seen this standoff before. And, ironically, in France with the French Revolution where the seeds of Leftism were arguably first planted and where God was first removed from the public square.

Thwarting life itself

Is the Progressive Left cracking at long last? Is the Life impulse about to reassert itself by rejecting their death-dealing doctrines? From pseudo-science and abortion to euthanasia?

Only the Lord God knows.

But Alexis de Tocqueville, writing in the 1830s, understood fully even then the danger in the false morality and spiritual bankruptcy that Leftism always brings. And how it thwarts life itself:

“Thus, taking each individual by turns in its powerful hands and kneading him as it likes, the sovereign extends its arms over society as a whole; it covers its surface with a network of small, complicated, painstaking, uniform rules through which the most original minds and the most vigorous souls cannot clear a way to surpass the crowd; it does not break wills, but it softens them, bends them and directs them; it rarely forces one to act, but it constantly opposes itself to one’s acting; it does not destroy, it prevents things from being born. It does not tyrannize, it hinders, compromises, enervates, extinguishes, dazes and finally reduces each nation to being nothing more than a herd of timid and industrial animals of which government is the shepherd.”

And if, in the end, the Left has its iniquitous way — in which Man does not go forth and multiply, but kills himself in any of the myriad ways now available to him and sanctioned by the State, will the Earth one day be nothing more than a rock hurling through space devoid of all meaning whatsoever?

Except perhaps for Bambi?

A Meditation for Good Friday: How To Undo the Effects of Sin?

Cardinal Newman, now Saint John Henry Newman, was a towering figure of nineteenth-century Catholicism who is almost universally admired. I say “almost” because not everyone likes him. I knew a priest once, Arthur Caulkins, who has become disenchanted with Newman. As an undergraduate Arthur had been enamoured of Newman, and this interest continued when he[…]Continue reading
